Record: 20 lakh passengers travel on Metro

The Delhi Metro witnessed a record footfall on last Friday, with more than 20 lakhs passengers travelling on the network. The target was achieved a good five months before Metro chief E. Sreedharan’s prediction, who had expected the network to achieve this figure only towards the end of 2011.On Friday, Metro’s ridership was recorded at 20,66,925.

Metro officials attribute the increased ridership, which generally peaks on Mondays, to waterlogged streets in various parts of the city, following persistent albeit intermittent rainfall throughout late Thursday night and well into early Friday morning .The maximum ridership was recorded on the Dwarka- Noida/ and Yamuna Bank/ Vaishali line at 7,98,498 passengers, with the Jahangirpuri- HUDA City Centre close on its heels at 7,14,314.
