Anna's arrest was unfortunate: PM

Prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said the arrest of Anna Hazare by Delhi police was unfortunate. Making a statement in Lok Sabha on Wednesday on the arrest of Hazare, he said that team Anna was insisting that their version of the Lokpal Bill should be tabled in the parliament. He also said that Anna was not ready to accept some of the key conditions set by the police in order to hold the fast at the JP park.

 Earlier, Congress Core Group meeting concluded over Anna issue. In the meeting, members including Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister AK Antony, Home Minister P Chidambaram and political advisor of Congress Chief Ahmed Patel discussed pros and cons of the issue.

 It was decided in the meeting that Prime Minister should make a statement in Lok Sabha on Anna. In this connection, party has also issued a whip to its MPs' and asked them to present in the house during debate. Highly placed party sources claimed that backroom dialogues between government and Anna has already been started to appease him.
