Young Mumbai long distance swimmer Swapnali Yadav will take part in the 19-km Denaru Island to Beachcomer Island relay swim competition in Fiji on August 25.
Swapnali is set to leave for Fiji on August 19, a media release said today. Swimmers take to the course either as teams of five, duo or solo, with each of them accompanied by a boat and kayak for the distance.
Participants in the Pacific Ocean swim include former greats like Australian Shane Gould, who once held all world freestyle records from 100m to 1500m concurrently and remains the only swimmer to win three Olympic gold medals in world record times, and American Natalie Coughlin, a three-time Olympic gold medal winner.
Twelve-year-old Andheri school girl Swapnali won the 20km Kimberley National Lake Argyle Swim on April 30 in Australia's second-biggest crocodile-infested artificial lake. Swapnali had won the women's category and finished second overall in the open category.
