Ministry promises Rs 300 cr for Shirdi temple

Union Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahay today said his ministry would provide Rs 300 crore for the development of Saibaba temple premises and the town.

Talking to reporters after visiting the temple here, Sahay said the development of Shirdi had been rather slow, considering that nearly 30,000 devotees come to the town every day.

He said that the town must have better road-links and assured that he would discuss the issue with Maharashtra Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan.

Talking about the tourism sector in the country, he said if we could double the sector''s contribution to GDP, lakhs of new jobs would be created.

As to the Saibaba Temple Trust giving money to Maharashtra government for proposed airport at Shirdi, he said it was not right for the government to turn to the Trust for this purpose.
